WHAT IS AN ASSESSMENT?

Treatment for any addiction or disorder begins with an assessment. The purpose of the assessment is to determine whether a substance use disorder (addiction) or problematic condition is present; the severity of the substance use disorder; whether co-occurring conditions are a factor; and to assist in identifying problems that will need to be addressed in treatment planning.

Assessments for mental health conditions and compulsive gambling are conducted in much the same way.

Our clinicians are trained to assess and diagnose a variety of conditions and disorders. All assessments are conducted in private settings and any information that is provided by you is kept confidential and only used to assist in your treatment.

The assessment process

The assessment process is fairly straightforward. The clinician will conduct a face-to-face interview with you, asking standard, open-ended questions that provide information about your current drug or alcohol use, treatment history, health history, patterns of behavior, symptoms, and the way your life has been impacted.

At the end of the assessment, the clinician will inform you of the diagnosis and help with referral and scheduling.

The entire process typically takes between 90 and 120 minutes.
